Karmapa’s Visit to Dhagpo (days one and two)
Thaye Dorje, His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, arrived in Dhagpo Kagyu Ling, the European seat of the Karma Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism, for a two day teaching programme. He was given a warm welcome from more than 3000 devotees.

Karmapa thanked everyone for their efforts to be present, and spoke about how precious and rare a place like Dhagpo is – a place where students can access authentic dharma teachings.
Karmapa spoke about our precious human lives, and how we are all on a journey towards full understanding, or ‘awakening’ – and it is beneficial to develop in this life the aspiration for awakening. Karmapa also said that the journey of a Bodhisattva requires patience – enlightenment can happen at any time, quite spontaneously, and so it is important to be prepared. Therefore, it is important to develop a regular practice, but to not go ‘over the top.’
Karmapa gave a teaching on the practice of taking Refuge, and how to develop Bodhicitta (enlightened mind).
Over 3000 Students Listen to Karmapa’s Teaching about Refuge and Bodhicitta
On day two, during the Chenresig (Avalokiteshvara) empowerment, Karmapa also conveyed the Refuge and Bodhisattva Vows.
During the Chenreisg empowerment, Karmapa described the different steps of the visualisation. Then, Karmapa gave comprehensive instructions about what everyone should focus on during the meditation.
