Public Meditation Course, December 25th, 2017 to January 3rd 2018, Karmapa International Buddhist Institute (KIBI)

The sixth annual Public Meditation Course at KIBI began with an introduction to the program and Sojong practice, followed by a welcome dinner on the evening of the 25th December.

Every day started with the granting of the Sojong vows, led by the Venerable Dupon Nyigyam, the highly respected teacher and retreat master from the Sharminub Institute in Kathmandu. He also provided insights into Shamatha practice during the afternoon sessions.

Further teachings on the Ngondro practice were led by Venerable Lama Sherab Gyaltsen Rinpoche. This year the focus was on the Guru Yoga meditation.

The students had the benefit of direct teachings from Thaye Dorje, His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa. Karmapa led additional teachings on the Guru Yoga meditation, as well as presiding over the final session on 2nd January with the Chenrezig practice and a butter lamp offering. On the final morning of the course, aspiration prayers were offered.

The course was attended by about 250 students from 40 countries around the world.

The KIBI Public Meditation Course combines the teachings of the Ngondro (four foundational practices), the Shamatha and the Sojong vows. Some of the students have been attending this annual event for several years, and ended the course with the completion of their Ngondro practice. KIBI looks forward to continuing to host this annual event with the wish to provide benefit to as many beings as possible.
