Tibetan New Year in Kalimpong, India

On the 9th of February 2007 His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa Trinley Thaye Dorje and the students at Shri Diwakar Vihara Institute for Buddhist Research began the annual Mahakala puja that precedes the celebrations for Losar. The week long puja was joined by numerous monks and nuns from various places as well as many other participants from all corners of the world.

Meeting with His Holiness Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang Rinpoche, the spiritual head of the Drikung Kagyu lineage

On Wednesday May 10, His Holiness Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang Rinpoche, the spiritual head of the Drikung Kagyu lineage, visited Kalimpong India to meet with His Holiness Karmapa. Upon arrival, he was greeted with the traditional pomp and circumstance. Thereafter, His Holiness Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang Rinpoche blessed the Shri Diwakar Vihara Buddhist Institute, which was established by Shamar Rinpoche in 2002.

Losar and opening ceremony of the new Shedra in Kalimpong

Losar (Tibetan New Year) was celebrated on February 13th, this year. In Kalimpong, the location in India where Gyalwa Karmapa Trinley Thaye Dorje receives his education, Shamar Rinpoche has built a Shedra, an Institute of Buddhist studies, for monks of the Karma Kagyu Tradition.
