In the evening the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa Thaye Dorje gave the White Tara initiation to 300 people at the University of Vienna.

The Karma Kagyu center in Vienna was founded 1982. Under the spiritual guidance of Kunzig Shamar Rinpoche many Karma Kagyu teachers were invited to take care of the practitioners. The center is a founding member of the Austrian Buddhist Society, which was officially recognised by the government 1983.
