Gyalwa Karmapa received Dr. Ambedkar International Award

His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa Trinley Thaye Dorje was invited as the chief guest and felicitated at the 28th National Dalit Literature conference held in Delhi on 9th December 2012.

As the chief guest, His Holiness inaugurated the conference with the traditional lamp lighting ceremony. The conference then commenced with a welcoming of His Holiness by Mr. Sumanashar, the President of the Organization in the presence of a multitude of Indian scholars, eminent politicians and thousands of devotees.The highlight of the conference arrived when the organizers conferred on His Holiness the prestigious Dr. Ambedkar International Award. His Holiness joined the list of international spiritual luminaries which include H.H. Dalai Lama amongst its past recipients.

Thereafter, His Holiness imparted personal blessings to the throngs of Indian devotees who queued up impatiently to receive His blessings.

In His address to the assembly, His Holiness stated,

India has a rich literary heritage which dates back by not just one or two centuries but for a period of more than 1000 years in history. Literature is the most effective tools in the exposition of thoughts and ideals. In this respect, Right Speech is also mentioned as an important tenant of right livelihood whilst on the path to enlightenment. Right Speech gives rise to loving kindness and compassion in this world to everybody. However, Right Speech can only be born in you when you have the right knowledge of literature and philosophy. Therefore, literature is preeminent on the path to realize the inner knowledge of how the mind functions. This is very important as the mind has a greater impact than mere matter … Danyabad.”
