June 18 to 19, 2009: Gyalwa Karmapa visits Irkutsk

Departing the night of June 17, the Gyalwa Karmapa, his entourage and travelling group of 100 people from all over the world, flew from Moscow to Irkutsk where they arrived in the early morning of June 18. 

 

The Gyalwa Karmapa was hosted at the local Karma Kagyu Center and representatives from the city of Irkutsk came to welcome him.

 

In the afternoon a welcoming reception was held in the Karma Kagyu Center, which is presently the largest Diamond Way Centre in Siberia. The local Sangha presented to the Karmapa their vast activities in Irkutsk and other places in Siberia.

 

On the morning of June 19, a press conference held in the Karma Kagyu Center. In the afternoon Gyalwa Karmapa gave a Marpa Initiation for 725 participants in the Hall of the Polytechnic University of Irkutsk. After the initiation, the Karmapa blessed the Karma Kagyu Center. In the evening, the Karmapa and about 100 of his followers left Irkutsk by night train to travel to Ulan-Ude.
